About

About me...

At the moment I'm a traveler and a photographer. Currently 31, and I don't always have a beard. The photo to the right was taken in while in Syria. (The can is a local drink called "Cheer UP - same as 7UP only happier!)

Prior to 2006 I was working as a lawyer in Sydney for a trade union and am admitted as a solicitor in New South Wales, Australia. I often get asked whether I left because I didn't like working as a lawyer. The fact is that although I enjoyed my work and representing people in their workplace, I wanted to do something a little bit different with my life, and was fortunate enough to be in a position to be able to do it.

I occasionally have people take an interest in my lifestyle and travels, and have been interviewed a number of times:

About This Site...

Veo el mundo... means "I see the world" in Spanish

This site follows my journey around the world. It contains stories, photos and ideas collected in a series of adventures starting at the beginning of 2006 after I left my "normal" job and decided to travel the world. It is my aim to provide a source of information, ideas and hopefully inspiration to fellow travelers and would be travelers.

The site can be navigated through the links in the header. Continent pages contain a collection of stories relating to that area of the world, as well as some country specific travel tips. The front page is updated with latest stories I've written - though not usually the latest in terms of the time I was there!

The site is currently hosted with Bluehost, and uses Drupal which is an open source content management system. The gallery on the tab is a sub-domain hosted on Smugmug (coupon code MsL5wMS7s3tmU if you want to sign up) which allows people to view my images effectively, and purchase prints of electronic copies of most images on this site.

In addition to photography, I aim to record some of my travel stories through this site. If you’re interested in using any of the material that you find here, or advertising on this site, please feel free to contact me.

About my photography...

Photography is currently my only source of income. Over the last 3 years I've built up a collection of travel images which are available for license on a number of online "microstock" photo agencies, such as istock, on a royalty free basis. Images on this site can be licensed for commercial use directly or used for print for private use. Simply click on a photo to bring up a larger version and the gallery.

I shoot with an Olympus Digital SLR camera with professional grade lenses and process all files from RAW. My workflow is optimized from capture through to the final output to ensure that maximum image quality is retained. Files are generally not heavily processed - I use the absolute minimum of sharpening and noise reduction to ensure that images can be used for a wide variety of end products. For me, optical quality and capturing an image in the best light are of critical importance. For more about my camera equipment, workflow and stock agencies, see my photography page.

My style of travel can best be described as backpacking. While this means many things to many people, for me it means low budget, low impact travel, with a backpack. I generally stay in locally owned guesthouses and hostels (as opposed to 5-star resorts), frequently eat local food including street food and prefer to travel over land rather than flying wherever possible. For me backpacking doesn't mean that I shun all the comforts of home, that I dispense with basic personal hygiene. It also doesn't mean that I'm on an extended world-wide pub crawl.
