Annecy by Night - Old Town

Annecy by Night - Old Town

Annecy is the sort of town that has a beautiful alpine setting, plenty of outdoor activities to keep busy and a charming historical district with cobblestone streets, a castle, a little river running through it, and of course some great little french restaurants.

Normally I'm hesitant to do night shots seeing as night shots take a little while to set up, but on this occasion, the scene was too nice to miss. Fortunately if you're in the company of another photographer they tend to be a little bit more understanding.

Daily Travel Photo: Notes:

In this shot, I was aiming to get the bright light from the lantern to create a star pattern. The smaller ones will do this quite easily (at about f11), but the large lantern in the foreground needed a very small aperture (f22) to create this effect. For more information about taking photos at night, take a look at my tutorial page.
