Dracula's Castle, Bran, Romania
One of the main attractions in the Brasov area is Bran Castle, also known as "Dracula's Castle". This identity however seems to have much more of a basis in promoting tourism than even an incidental connection to the fictional story of Count Dracula.
Lets see the connection:
- Vlad III "the Impaler" has a vague connection to Bram Stoker's 1897 novel Dracula - he might have been used as an inspirational source for the character.
- Vlad III appears to have besieged and taken the castle on at least one occasion.
Whatever its past ownership, the castle was returned to Archduke Dominic of Habsburg in 2009.
This was possible because the Romanian government passed a law in 2005 allowing restitution claims on such properties which were seized by the communist government in 1948. Many people have suffered losses of property and livelihoods through the events of the 20th century in Europe. Looking around Romania there are probably more needy recipients of government restitution efforts than the monarchic families.

Well, it is not sure if Vlad
Well, it is not sure if Vlad has ever been in Bran... Yes, he had something with the Saxon merchants from Sibiu and Brasov, but he avoided Bran as it was very difficult to be conquered :)
Regarding the Habsburgs, it is funny enough they owned Bran until WW1. After war, they were expropriated and the castle became the property of Queen Maria of Romania. She gave it with a daughter of her who got married with a ... Habsburg ! So, it cam back to them
