Elephant Soccer - Surin Thailand

Surin in Isan, Thailand isn't really on the radar for tourists or travelers. It probably should be though, at least at the time of year when the annual Elephant Roundup is held. This weekend marked the 50th aniversary of the spectacular event.

So what is an elephant roundup? Its an event where all the working elephants in surrounding regions are brought together, given a special elephant's buffet" in the morning on the first day, and a festival is held showcasing and celebrating some of the elephants' talents, such as in the case of thies photo: soccer. Yes these elephants can actually kick!
