Marble busts at Hotel Espana

Home for the Quirky: Hotel Espana, Lima

There are some Hotels that are almost a travel destination in their own right. Hotel Espana is one of these.

Its set up feels more like the home of an eccentric millionaire than a hotel, and comes complete with extravagant staircases, marble busts and a range of roaming pets: talking parrots, tortoises and an unknown number of cats. Look out the back and you'll even come across an unfortunate Macaw in a cage that is far too small for such a beautiful animal.

Price tag? When I visited, a decent single room was $10 a night, but may well have gone up in the meantime (they also have dorms available).
