Moonrise over Fraser Island
In the last few days I've been sorting through my archive of photos taken over the last 5 or so years, and came across today's photo: a 4 minute exposure of the moon rising over Fraser Island in Queensland, Australia. If you look closely you can make out the movement of the stars across this time period.
Technically the photo is far from perfect - the shot is taken with an Olympus E500 that struggles with exposures over about 30 seconds, and the tripod setup on the beach was also far from ideal, particularly seeing as I wasn't expecting anything quite so dramatic in the near- pitch black that preceded the moon rising over the water. Still, for me its an interesting reminder of a spectacle that in real life is truly stunning.
By way of contrast, there's an image of the sun rising around about the same part of the beach the following morning.

I was driving across America
I was driving across America a few years ago and was in New Mexico and the moon started to come above horizon. It has to be one of the most amazing things I have ever seen, couldn't believe how big the moon seemed while it was rising. It bought a tear to my eye.
