Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu, Peru

Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu, Peru

Usually when I'm traveling I tend to slowly lose weight because I'm a lot more active than when at home.

However not too long after this shot was taken, I arrived in Argentina and stayed for the better part of 2 months. In hindsight planning to spend an extended period in a place where the food is so good probably wasn't a wise move on my part. Following it up with time in Brazil with an abundance of "all you can eat places", time in South Africa where the Braai is just too good, and topping it off with a sugar-induced high in Europe has led me to go from 83kg (and falling) to 95kg (and rising).

So what's the point of this blog post? Its time to take drastic action, and to make it public. My aim is to get back to 83kg by the time I'm back in Austraila (Mar 22 - ie. 30 days time), and to do it with the “slow-carb diet” with a good measure of exercise thrown in.

Wish me luck!

That's a great undertaking! I

That's a great undertaking!
I generally advocate eating next to no carbs, if at all, before/after exercise and then only very low GI (so your metabolism has to work to get the joules out of it). If you need a pick me up in the morning then some Muesli is good with full fat yoghurt and fruit full fat milk.. its all about the energy intake, fat has a bad rap as somehow magically causing fat.. but you actually need good fat in your diet just less joules of energy. Good luck with your lifestyle change (it's not a diet!). See you in a month!

And heavy on the butter with

And heavy on the butter with conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), vitamin A, D, E, K etc. That will keep you feeling full and off the carbs and sugar, and keep you going longer. Short-chain fats are easy to use for energy and keep your blood sugar levels stable. I've measured my blood sugar levels still normal after 6 hours on a high fat, very low carb breakfast. High insulin levels will put fat in the body.

My staples are butter, coconut oil, eggs, especially egg yolks, coconut milk, full fat yoghurt, cheese, boiled fresh meat with all the fat (nothing lean! avoiding fried and processed meat), longrise sourdough bread, a wide variety of vegetables and no sugar, honey, fruit, starch, "white" foods or milk etc.

Cinnamon to keep blood sugar levels down, pure stevia for sweetening.

It's more about good calories and bad calories. No need to count calories... if anything I'd watch your total carbohydrate intake from all sources and keep that as low as possible. Keto diet..

You are fat fat fat !!
