Market near Jama Masjid in Muslim area of New Delhi

Delhi, India - a Swarm of Humanity!

Photo: 22 Dec 2007 - Posted: 31 Oct 2009

Delhi was my second stop in India. Despite my experiences in Varinasi, I was naively expecting something akin to a modern capital city. Instead my first impression of was the view from the train as we entered the outskirts of the city.

Most memorable was the sight of several locals using the space next to the railway tracks as a toilet. I was lucky that I hadn't had too much breakfast.

Delhi is symbolic of the rest of the country. Loud, polluted and filled with chaos. Its also the only place in the world where I have encountered a roundabout where traffic was directed to go in both directions around it. As you can imagine, it wasn't the most efficient solution.
