North America

When people think about North America, the United States is often the first thing that comes to mind. For a long time, I had no interest in traveling to the US - partly because it seemed so similar culturally to Australia, but also in part because of its reputation for being, well, American!

In a way America was one of the places I had the most preconceptions about. Many of these as it turns out were a long way off the mark. It turned out to be one of my favourite places to travel, and somewhere I'm looking forward to going back to.

This page contains a collection of photos, stories and a little bit of advice about backpacking through North America - including Central America, which many people seem to forget forms a very large chunk of the continent!

Veo el mundo... means "I see the world" in Spanish
